Have No Fear...

I see the same look at the beginning of each class.  A guest walks in, obviously unsure of what they are getting into.  Was this a good idea? Can I still turn and run?  

Don’t worry. You are in good hands!  You will be greeted by the concierge who will lead you to your seat and set your name tag in front of you as introductions are made.  Your table mates are probably as lost as you are, but here’s the good news.  You instantly have something in common with three other people.

Your new community starts as soon as you take your seat.

Take a minute to look at the resources we’ve left for you - an easy to follow lesson plan, a note pad and pen, and the 2026 American Mahjong Card.  Take notes all thru the class! There’s a lot to learn, and you’re not going to catch it all the first time thru!

There will be one teacher at each table. They are often funny and always encouraging.  They love the game and it shows. Learning Mahjong is a challenge, so they break it down into the simplest steps - identifying the game pieces, the terms, the rules, the process and then the card. The lesson is 2 1/2 hours of new information.  You will have to concentrate, and you’ll ask a lot of questions.  Your table mates are learning right alongside you, so you’ll learn from their questions just as they learn from yours.  And then you’ll play your first game.  

This game will draw you in!!  You start with a plan, but your strategy changes each time a tile is passed!!  Time flies, and before you know it the class will be over.  What a sense of accomplishment!  

What’s next?  We highly encourage signing up for another class before you leave!  You learned the basics, but that is just the foundation.   The second lesson is the same information but you will start filling in the details. There is so much more to come.  This game unfolds gradually.  You learn to pivot, and prepare for each option. This game can be played for years with a new lesson learned and an instant community formed each time you sit down to play!
